ABOUT: Detroit Love is an annual birthday celebration produced by Forward Arts. Next year it will become Detroit's City Ball with proceeds being donated to Detroit Recreation Department!

Detroit used to LOVE to celebrate its birthday. According to Detroit historical website nighttraintodetroit.com, “In 1893, it was called Cadillac Day, hosted by the Wayne County Historical Society. They held a parade from Grand Circus Park, rented a steamboat for 2000 people to party upon, and invited a bunch of people to talk about the old days and put into perspective just how far Detroit had come.” Some might even remember Stevie Wonder in Hart Plaza for Detroit’s 300th birthday in 2001!

Forward Arts wants to bring that spirit back every year, and started Detroit Love in 2013. Detroit Love always has three main objectives. First, celebrate our collective identity, and showcase Detroit that instills and builds civic pride for residents and region. Second, organize all the young professional organizations in the city, and collaborate around something once a year. And lastly, raise resources for a Detroit organization or project. In 2013 we raised money for the newly formed Belle Isle Conservancy, and excitement for the 313th celebration started then. For 2014, the Sound It Out music program, a new local and national music program of Forward Arts, will benefit.
